Look Here, Read: “Steel Souls” by Dan Recchia

The first two instalments of Dan Recchia’s one-page strip, “Steel Souls,” featured below were published in Hot Stuf’ #6 (1977); the third was published in Hot Stuf’ #7 (1978); and the fourth was published in Jasia Reichardt, Robots: Fact, Fiction, and Prediction (Penguin Books, 1978).

“Steel Souls” did not appear in any other issues of Hot Stuf’, but as the caption to the strip published in Robots seems to indicate, other unpublished instalments of the strip may exist…

Look Here: Four Agatha Christie novels with cover art by Tom Adams

Although I have never read a single novel by Agatha Christie, I have over forty old paperbacks with her name on them in my personal collection. Most of them have cover art by Tom Adams but a handful feature cover art by William Teason. My plan is, eventually, to scan them all for display here. As regular visitors here might recall, I posted a scan of an Agatha Christie with cover art by Tom Adams on Halloween, as well as a couple of Raymond Chandlers with art by Tom Adams back in August. And now here are four more:

Tom Adams + mystery novels = illustration gold!

Why Tom Adams’ cover art has not secured him a spot in the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame is a greater mystery than anything ever dreamt of in the world of fiction…

Look Here: Three more Fritz Leiber novels with cover art by Jeffrey Jones

Just finished scanning these, so the next step is to post them, like so:

The “Jeffrey ‘Jeff’ Catherine Jones” category here at RCN — which currently clocks in at 122 posts, with more on the way — is a treasure trove of covers, comics, spot illustrations, sketches, and more. Check it out.

Look Here: Two classic Fritz Leiber novels with classic cover art by Jeffrey Jones

In my paperback collection, I have at the moment at least half a dozen of the novels in Fritz Leiber’s “Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser” series with cover art by Jeffrey Jones; here are two of them, freshly scanned and processed for your viewing enjoyment:

Look Here: THE PAINTED BIRD, with first-rate cover art by Leo and Diane Dillon

From the library of yours truly, as usual:

BTW, there’s a certain “Dillon Fangirl” out there who seems to think that she has a right to take EVERY Dillon scan from RCN (and LOTS of other sites, too) and post them ALL on her Dillon fan blog without properly acknowledging her sources, i.e., without posting links to the pages where she “found” the images. Now, as someone who goes to a lot of trouble to find and purchase old paperbacks and scan them for display on the Web, I think that what she has done (and continues to do) is extremely uncool. And the fact is, I’ve told her as much by email. I’ve also told her that she is NOT welcome here at RCN. Won’t do any good, of course. She is ungrateful. And utterly shameless.
