The Frazetta cover was published in September 1954; the artwork by Val Mayerik is from a story called “Domain,” with script by Bruce Jones, that appeared in Alien Worlds #1 in December 1982.

Thanks for the link, Steed. I’ve seen that cover before, and I agree that it is definitely based on the cover of FAMOUS FUNNIES #213. Over the years, Frazetta’s “concepts” have been every bit as influential as his inking and painting styles.
