More pages from Richard Corben’s personal inventory of original comic art by Richard Corben will go on sale via the “Sales” page on the official Corben website on Saturday 26 January 2013 at noon CST.
Thumbnail images of the pages that will be up for sale are on the site now for preview.
The sale includes thirty (30) pages, which break down into four groups:
- pages one to eight of chapter three of Mutant World;
- all ten pages of “The Scar” (after H. P. Lovecraft’s “Recognition”), published in the Haunt of Horror: Lovecraft three-issue mini-series and hardcover collection;
- the cover and pages thirteen to twenty two from Swamp Thing #20; and
- a promotional illustration for Empire of the Dead.
“Buy-it-now” prices for all except the Mutant World pages (which will be “on auction”) will be posted when the sale goes live.
I’ve purchased several things during the Corben art sales over the past year or so. Prices seem to be going up a bit, perhaps because of the publicity the sales are getting (shhh!). If you give me an email address I’ll send you a good scan of what I bought this time around.

BTW, I just checked the “Sales” page on the Corben website, and it says that the current high bid for all eight pages from Corben and Strnad’s Mutant World GN is $56,000, or $7,000 a page. And that’s without a middleman — dealer, auction house, etc. — waiting to take a cut.
Just to give you a couple of points of comparison, page 71 of Corben and Strnad’s New Tales of the Arabian Nights — just an average page in terms of content, IMHO — sold on 11 May 2012 through Heritage Auctions for $2,629, and on the same day, page 8 of “The Plague,” a story that appeared in Solo #2 from DC comics, sold for $2,270.50.

Looks like the auction is over now. Apparently, $56,000 was the winning bid for the eight MUTANT WORLD pages.
